Its a new year and I'm back. It has been almost a full year since my last post. I realized I've become lazy and haven't even scanned or taken pictures of art and art related things I've been working on. Not having the internet lately has made it a bit harder.

So a new year, and I'm going to start again. My realization began with a Mayday cover I completed for the December issue. Mayday is a free magazine available in Hamilton Ontario.

This issue was vocusing on voices and views that Mayday thought they had overlooked in the previous issue. Here is the cover without the title and article headings.

So another art gala has come and gone. My favorite piece this year was a cardboard robot I made. Plus you can pose him! That is right, the arms and neck move.
I liked it so much, I'm making them for $20. My hope is that they follow the same idea as the munny. With people buying them and drawing, painting, doing whatever they want to them to create their own original cardboard robot.

Soon I'm going to make a few more, and deck them out my self.

The Alder Fork Festival

So my friend Pete has organized a concert displaying the musical talents of himself and some of his musical friends, and I was asked to design the poster.

This was a fun assignment as it brought back some good memories. This is actually the third time I've created a poster for Pete and his festival. Back then though it was called The Mid-summer Festival of Peace and Tranquility. I created the first two posters for that event on the second and third year they ran.

So yes it has been a good long while. I'll spare you the details and simply state I'm feeling much better and healthy again. Life is returning to somewhat of a state of normalcy. Which is sorta wierd, which I guess might be normal for me.

Anyways,

I have decided to begin working on this blog again. I hope to be able to post as often as I can, and begin some sort of scheduled posting. Not sure in what form, but I will let you know when I figure out what is going to work best for me.

So to start off, here are two paintings that sadly never made it to the double feature show in March. But that I completed later. they are called " King Jack " and are ment to be viewed together. But also look good by themselves.

okay. wow. I know, I know, its been way too long since I last posted anything. I need to apologize for this.

Sorry.

But for some reason, annoyances one might say of a bus strike making me go stir crazy and throwing my life into a tumble cycle has but me in a strange winter hibernation mood of late. It all seemed to happen after the holidays, first sick, then work schedule changed to never seeing the light of day except through a window while I work!!!!

anyways sad excuses I know. Hopefully this will change. I'm gonna start trying to post again, not sure what form of scheduling or if random may be the best answer right now.

But ideas are floating around, I have a couple tattoo concepts that have been requested, a show with my friend Aaron in March and a few other ideas floating in my head.

So here's to a late start to the new year. Hibernation was nice, I do enjoy sleep. But back to things as they should be.

Another post today?!?!?! weird I know, miss so many days and then a bunch in one.
Well I was making the rounds through the interweb, blogs and webcomics I frequently visit and such, when I realized I needed to add a link to mine.

My friend Peter Snow from days past, has recently been writing almost everyday a retrospective blog on his own loves of art in the forms of writing and music. Its a great read, and Pete actually is able to post almost everyday, much better then me.

So if you frequent a little internet community of Facebook and happen to be a member of the Lovesick Design group, you might have seen these before.

This is a series of 20 small prints I did for the art gala I was involved in back in November. Each measures 6" x 7" and sells fro $6. The whole set sells for $80 (a savings of $40, wow!) and comes in a nice booklet (pics to come soon). If interested contact me and we can figure something out.

Soon these will also be optioned at 8" by 10" mounted and matted so that it just needs to be inserted in a frame. Just figuring out material costs and how that will translate over to a final price. I'll keep you up to date.

The Art Gala was last night and wow, what fun! Thanks to everyone who stopped to talk and take a gander at what I was showing.

So to start back into the regular scheduling of posting I'm posting a picture of a toque that I had for sale. I really like it and so did some lucky individuals who purchased one.

sadly all sold out...congrats to those who got their hands on one!

hmmm.....been awhile

Ah so yes it has been awhile, no don't worry I haven't forgotten about my little corner of the Internet. So I know I posted earlier that I would be showing some progress work of my stuff that will be at Art Gala I am participating in this Sunday. Well that hasn't happened. Actually I've been hard at work trying to complete everything in time....oh and I decided to make it harder for myself by changing my ideas and goals last week.

Yes, yes poor planning I'm sure, but I'm really excited about my new idea. So I scrapped everything I had done and my ideas since November 8th (my last post) and started again.

But like I said I'm super duper excited for what I have going on....and feels a bit more me in the end. (hehe silly monster tricks are for kids.) So back to why I haven't posted...well my brain sorta exploded and this has been the result for the last week and abit (good thing Oscar is away for two weeks, hehe) :

so yeah as I said brain exploded. But some exciting stuff is in that picture. Some of my stock designs for shirts can be seen. Yup I will have five, count them 5! different designed painted shirts for sale, that will be revealed at the show ( these shirts will later go on sale by order, and oh yeah commissions for something individual are always welcomed!) some painted toques, a new pair of painted chucks and tons of supplies and drawing stuff.... monsters are hiding too, but you won't see them till the gala (hopefully).

24 hour comic challenge

As promised here are my nine completed pages from the 24 hour comic challenge I participated in last month. Yes sadly I wasn't able to finish 24 pages in the time limit, but i am happy with the amount I got done. Nine pages pencilled inked and grey toned is pretty good when you consider my brain died at 4am and decided it wouldn't work on anything creative anymore, and also wouldn't let me sleep. Ah well, fun as always, here is hoping for another fun time next year!

um so this drawing is a result of an inside joke slash story...which I actually know little to nothing about...... but I was given a synopsis and asked for this drawing by my friend Heather. So here ya go, you get to see it as well. (I'm actually happy with how this drawing sorted itself out, hence why I posted it)

Hopefully when I get in on this joke and read the story I will post a bit of it to help you understand.

And oh yeah, I still consider 2 am on Saturday to be Friday cause I haven't gone to bed yet. Which means Friday's post is a okay.

halloween is a coming

Well the fourth reason why October is the greatest month of all ( the other three include falling into the autumn season {ouch pad pun} thanksgiving and my birthday) is Halloween!!!

so this is spook. He might look familiar, he's from a previous something or other...... but I like him, so this is a more finalized look, a bit bigger so I can scale him to any size. Now why would I want that to be...guess you'll just have to wait and see...I've got some plans for spook, big plans.

This is also an update for the Art Gala at the comic book shoppe here in Ottawa. Hello all. Well it has been awhile since I last updated this blog. I feel an explanation is in order. As my previous post stated I've been getting over a flare up. This has been tough as I'm still working during the day, and other such daily routines, plus I did go to a wedding this past weekend (and thanksgiving is this Monday) so drawing has sadly been put to the side over the last little while. Right now these simple day to day tasks really wipe me out, and I've been catching up on sleep to feel better.

But on a happier note, it seems to be working and I have been getting back to my sugar filled happy go lucky self. So post should start up again next Wednesday.....this weekend is thanksgiving, plus my b-day, so I'm a bit occupied till then.

Other news includes my munny Icarus sold this week!

Also on October 18th I will be involved in the 24 Hour Comic Day ( http://www.24hourcomicsday.com/ ) event at the Comic Shoppe in Ottawa. This event involves the attempt to create a 24 page comic in only 24 hours. Super fun, and crazy tiring event that I've done once before. So come on down and see myself and other artists attempting this creative challenge.

The Munny show was last night...and it was great!!! Tons of people showed up and there was a great selection of Munnys to gander at.

No real explanation for this one. Drew it last night, and coloured this afternoon. This was another fun one to colour, as I had no previous set plan for colour scheme. Started with a black dress, and I completed the colouring my going back to the dress and ended with an almost classic design often used for stars and space.

Forgot to post this weekend, so here are some process shots of Icarus' creation.

Originally Icarus was going to be an angel named Michael...as you can see from the original sketch. Also he was going to have a small devil bear as a friend.

Note: I also taped out areas I wanted to remain the glow in the dark material, such as the eyes.

More detail is added. It was at this point I began to realise that he wasn't much of an angel....

But then as I gazed at the paper mache wings, my mind crept back into mythology and the obvious name popped in my head.

So the halo was dropped and Icarus was born.

So you might think I didn't post Wednesday , and just plain old forgot. Well partially right ( technically no post on Wednesday, but not because I forgot or didn't have one ready). So if you want to be super insane accurate......fine no Wednesday post.

But this is why. I have been working on.....Icarus.

Icarus is a Munny. Fun playful vinyl toys that you are free to do with what you will. The store Lost Marbles in Ottawa is having an Artist Munny Show to celebrate their opening, and Icarus is my entry for the show.

I will post some process shots this weekend.

I was happy with how this drawing was turning out, so I decided to colour it as well. Hopefully I will get to post more finished drawings like this one soon. Sketching is fun, but its also nice to complete something from start to finish, and rewards those who visit my little blog with something a bit different from the norm that seems to be posts of random sketches from my sketchbook.

So on this past Sunday, September 8 morning, Prime Minister Harper asked Governor General Michaëlle Jean to dissolve parliament on the fact that he believed it was dysfunctional in its current state. This means Canada is going to the polls on October 14.

In honour of this moment, on Sunday afternoon I ventured down to the parliament buildings and produced this ink sketch of the peace tower. It began to rain, and I took that as a sign the drawing was done.

Now I'm not going to turn this blog into a forum for political rambles, it will stay art based. But I did want to say I believe everyone should get informed, and follow this election closely, as you should for each election.

Get out and Vote! Remember, the only wasted vote is the one not taken, so don't be passive, act. Vote.

how i got the name.... lovesick

So a bit busy today, need to finish up an application for a paid internship. Therefore the post is something that isn't new, but a shirt. Actually how I got the name for Lovesick is partly from this shirt that I designed.

So the rest of the story goes, one night myself and a couple good friends were talking about relationships, love, how people care for each other, how we are all mssed up in so many ways. And in the course of the discussion it was determined by Emilie that the one word that sums me up, in a nutshell, encompasses my idealistic, romantic, heart on my sleeve personality, is 'Lovesick'. I actually went home that night and started the design for this shirt.

Those are two parts of three that lead to me painting shirts/shoes/whatever and naming it all Lovesick Designs. Whats part three? Well c'mon I can't tell you everything.

K so this is my spin on a typical retro cocktail party mixed with Moai guy kinda thingy. Not too sure how to explain that. Inspired by some classic 50's pin up, roadster stuff. Not that original, but I like it.

Well title says it all, I'm a bit addicted it would seem to both guitar hero and rock band.......so much in fact I'm seriously considering buying the rock band set when it comes out for wii....oh dear (that's right the BIG set, guitar drums and mic). Anyways in wishing I actually new how to play guitar, I drew this.

It would seem I haven't really gotten a hold of what I was trying to accomplish with this little blog attempt, which was more art. So I have decided to finally lay down the law, and actually stick to a regular schedule of posting. I've decided to try three days a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Not sure what type of direction each post will take, but its time to start the journey and see where it leads.so here is a start.....

So I just moved to Ottawa (again, this is my third time actually living in town) so I've been a little busy with other stuff, packing, unpacking and the like. But I'm pretty much set up now, so off to drawing and such until I start my new job on the 5th!

So the last three posts of art pieces were all done on Masonite with acrylic, including a small touch of metal leaf on raven and owl 13. These were all done for a collaborative art gala I was involved in with several other artists from the Ottawa area last fall.

So to start off, I decided to post my drawing for my own, very first tattoo. I'm very happy with how it turned out, and even got the tattoo completly in orange ink. And yes the bug has hit me, I'm already planning for my second.

EDIT: decided I should also add a picture of the finished tattoo......so I did!
